The Marion County Parks And Recreation Commission (MCPARC) was formed in 1977. It is the home of West Virginia's first Wave Pool and within its 10 parks are a multitude of facilities covering over 3000 acres. MCPARC also maintains 20 miles of rail trails in the county.

MCPARC is committed to the purpose of providing you with quality park and recreation areas for all your leisure activities. MCPARC offers year-round programming for all ages: basketball leagues, community-ed classes, 10K runs, youth sports, occupational therapy, dance lessons, monthly bus trips, playground programs and much more. MCPARC is also active in many areas of the community and helps many organizations with special events and projects. MCPARC also offers community grants to help municipalities and non-profit groups increase recreational opportunities throughout the county.

MCPARC has ten outdoor pavilions at various parks that can be reserved for seasonal use. MCPARC also offers an indoor facility at East Marion Park with restrooms and kitchen that is available year round and ideal for birthday parties, family reunions and meetings.

The purpose of MCPARC shall be to administer a system of public parks and recreation in Marion County, West Virginia.

Consistent with said purpose, the Commission shall:

  • Promote public interest in recreation and support, foster, and promote recreational activities
  • Cooperate with, and encourage the participation of other agencies, both public and private, in the accomplishment of the above endeavors

Permits are issued subject to the rules and regulations which have been established by the governing bodies depending upon the park, facility, etc.: MCPARC, Marion County Board of Education, or The City of Fairmont.

ATTENTION: The person signing the rental contract agrees to be in attendance at the activity and to be financially responsible for any property damage or excessive littering done during the activity. The signer must be an adult. For groups whose members are under 21 years of age, one chaperone must be provided for every 15 persons under 21.  The chaperone must be the parent, sponsor, or teacher of the group, school or business function.

Copies of park or facility rules and regulations are available at the MCPARC office. All park visitors are expected to acquaint themselves with the rules and conduct themselves accordingly.

NOTE: The Executive Director, Dan Talbott, or any of his authorized representatives has the authority to revoke any and all permits upon the finding of a violation of any park rule or regulation by any person or persons.

NO VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED ON GRASS OR TRAILS

As of February 2001, no alchoholic beverages will be allowed without a special written permit acquired by sending notice of request to MCPARC
