Programs We Offer

   The Marion County Parks And Recreation Commission, created in 1977, is committed to the purpose of providing you with quality parks and recreation areas for all your leisure activities. Due to the unpredictability of weather and unforeseen circumstances, some events may be subject to change.


  MCPARC is committed to the purpose of providing you with quality parks and recreation areas for all your leisure activities. The following is a guide of events and activities for 2008. Events may be subject to change.

  • Guyses Run Fishing Park: Opening  Day is  Saturday, April 19th. (Park Info)
    After-school Fishing Wednesdays – every Wednesday 4:00pm – 8:00pm, for  school-aged  children to enjoy the sport of fishing with their friends and family. (Free for children. $2 adult)

    Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($3 adult; $2 child) under 6 free

    Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. ($2) under 6 free.

  • Seth Burton Disc Golf Course at Morris Park is open every day. No charge to come and try out your skill. Fairmont's Ice Bowl, February 16th, 2008.

  • BMX Bicycle Racing is held at the Poor Farm BMX track off Hoult Road. Track opens in April.
    Practice on Tuesdays at 7 PM ($2); Gate opens on Thursdays at 7:00 PM for practice and racing.

  • MCPARC will host the 2008 NE BMX Regional in June

  • Geocaching is a fun and exciting activity for the whole family. Find out more about this new hobby that is sweeping the nation!

  • Barnes Gymnasium can be rented out for adult basketball groups. Contact the MCPARC office for rates and times.

 

  • 8th Annual Family Fishing day at Curtisville Lake - Friday, March 21st, 10:00am – 2:00pm
    DNR officers will be present and door prizes will be awarded throughout 

  • The Wave Pool Will be open for the 2008 summer season on Saturday, May 24th 
     Reservations are being made for pool parties and pavilion rentals.

  • The MCPARC Playground Program and Day Camp will both run for six weeks for ages 6 through 12 from Monday through Friday, June 16th through July 25th.  The cost for the East Marion Day Camp is $15 per day per child with a lunch provided.  The playground program is free and the playground sites will be at the following locations:  612 MAC, 5th Street Playground, Rivesville, Fairview, Mannington, Unity Terrace, and Farmington.  All sites except Fairview will have lunches provided.

  • MCPARC Swim Lessons :  MCPARC will be offering two sessions to be held at 12th Street Pool from June 17 through 26 and July 8 through 17.  The cost for each session is $35.00 for ages 5 through 18.  Water Aerobics and Senior Swimming will also be offered.  The dates and times for the aerobics and senior swimming will be announced later.
